Audra McDonald is unmatched in the breadth and versatility of her artistry as both an actress and a performer. She was the recipient of record-breaking six Tony Awards two Grammy Awards and an Emmy Award in 2015 she was selected as one of Time magazine's top 100 influential people. She also received the National Medal of Arts, America's highest honor for achievement in the field--from the president Barack Obama. She's equally comfortable on television, film as well as Broadway. Her luminous soprano will make her an ideal performer on the stage. Alongside her theatrical work she is also a prominent performer as a recording performer who regularly appears at world's foremost venues. McDonald is a member of a musically inclined family from Fresno in California. She was a classical singer who received training from The Juilliard School of New York. A year after graduating she won the first Tony Award for Best Performance of a Featured Actress the Musical Carousel at the Lincoln Center Theater (1994). Over the next four years she received two additional Tony Awards in the featured actress category for her performance on performances in the Broadway premieres of Terrence McNally's production Master Class (1996) and his show Ragtime (1998) making an unprecedented total of three Tony Awards before the age of thirty. In 2004, she was in the running to win her 4th Tony Award for her performance in A Raisin in the Sun alongside Sean Diddy Combs. And in 2012, her fifth Tony as well as her first win award in the category Leading Actress was won for her performance as the title character in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. In the year she received her 6th Tony award in 2014 her performance in Lady Day in Emerson's Bar & Grill was Broadway's highest-rated performance. In 2017 she performed in the West End London West End debut, and was nominated for the Olivier Award. The first actor to be given awards in four distinct category of acting, McDonald set a record for the amount of awards an actor has won. McDonald also has credits for other productions in the theatre which include The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (1999), Henry IV 2004 110 in the Shade (2006) Twelfth Nigh (2009) Twelfth Nigh (2009); it is her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park d but Shuffle Along or The Making of the Musical Sense in 1921 and All That Followed (16) Frankie and Johnny in Clair de Lune (192019) as well as Ohio State Murders (2023) McDonald's first role as a dramatic actor on television was with the Peabody Award-winning CBS series Having Our Say The Delany SistersThe First 100 Years. The actress then starred alongside Kathy Bates and Victor Garber in the critically acclaimed 1999 television adaptation of Annie as well as in 2000, she was a frequent guest on the NBC's hit show Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald, who received the Emmy Award nomination back in 1999 for her performance as a character in an HBO adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Wit with Emma Thompson, returned on the network's air in 2003 to star in the political drama Mister Sterling. The film was produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. The Bedford Diaries on the WB at the beginning of 2006, and Kidnapped, NBC. McDonald received a fourth Emmy for her role as Lady Day in Emerson's Bar & Grill on HBO in the year 2016. The Bite is a drama featuring six episodes that are based on an epidemic, produced with Spectrum Originals & CBS Studios. McDonald starred alongside Taylor Schilling & Steven Pasquale. She first appeared on the show in the role of U.S. attorney Liz Lawrence in 2009 on CBS's medical show The Good Wife in 2018 McDonald returned to her role (now known as Liz Reddick) as a season-long regular on The Good Fight on Paramount+ getting the three Critics Choice Award nominations for her performance. She appears as a special guest for the HBO series The Gilded Age by Julian Fellowes.
