Catherine Ford was raised in Bloomsbury by her maternal grandparents and mother. When she was a little girl, she was diagnosed with an obsessional disorder, and also suffered from anxiety due to the word association. Ford began to become interested in acting during her teenage years she joined the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School but after just one week she realized that she was not a fit. Ford decided to apply for the Central School of Speech and Drama which she was eventually able to get the position on her 4th attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford was not able to complete her degree until 1993. However, in 1991, Ford had made her debut on television in a show called Surgical Spirit. At that point, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate began her TV debut in 1991and appeared in shows such as The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. as well as London's Burning. Tate also regularly worked in theatre and eventually joined in the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season 2000-2001. Tate's stand-up humor and humour, which she added to her repertoire in 1996, quickly gained her attention.
